Our Recipe for Homemade New England Apple Crisp
•Posted on November 20 2022
We're mid way through September in New Hampshire. The nights are getting cooler, the leaves are changing color, and our apples are about ready to be picked. To celebrate the coming of fall, we're sharing our family's recipe for apple crisp.
Ingredients
- 4-5 apples, peeled and sliced
- 3/4 cups brown sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/3 cup softened butter
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- Vanilla ice cream, optional
Directions
Peel and core the apples, then slice them thinly. Combine the dry ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Cut in the butter with a pastry blender until you obtain the consistency of moist crumbs. Place the apples in a shallow baking dish or pie plate. Cover the apples with the dry mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes until golden brown on top. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm. If desired, top with vanilla ice cream.
Makes 4 servings.
